چکیده

Post-stroke sequelae, spinal cord injury and multiple sclerosis are the most common disabling diseases of upper motor neurons. These cause functional limitations prevent patients from performing activities daily living. This review aims to identify potential electrical stimulation (FES) for locomotor rehabilitation use in neuron diseases. A systematic search was conducted. For strategy, MeSH terms such as “stroke”, “functional stimulus*” “FES”, “post-stroke”, “multiple sclerosis”, “spinal injury*” were used. Of 2228 papers raw results, 14 articles analyzed after inclusion exclusion criteria applied. Only four randomized clinical trials, but with low numbers participants. RehaMove, Microstim STIWELL reported three independent studies, whereas Odstock used articles. The results studies very heterogeneous, although lower extremity (11 out papers), walking speed only 6. Berg Balance Scale, Timed Up Go, Functional Ambulation Category, 6-Minute Walk Test, 10-Meter Fugl-Meyer Assessment, Motricity Index Action Research Arm Test assessment. assessment, Modified Barthel Index, Rivermead Mobility Stroke Impact Scale Four spread over 6 months, two investigated effects FES during one session, other eight conducted 3 8 weeks. Improvements related gait speed, ambulation, hand agility range motion. can be considered large-scale a neuroprosthesis syndromes, especially impaired patterns. Further research should focus on duration homogeneity assessment scales, also improvements devices, accessibility quality life.

Dental management of pediatric patients affected by pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect: A scoping review

BACKGROUND Congenital Heart Diseases (CHD) involves a wide range of pathological conditions, such as Pulmonary Atresia with Ventricle Septal Defect (PA/VSD). This disorder leads to the systemic circulation of oxygen-poor blood (cyanosis), with associated features and consequences in the oral cavity. MATERIAL AND METHODS Using scoping review methodology for screening and article selection, the...

Central motor conduction is abnormal in motor neuron disease.

Conduction in the central motor pathways of the brain and spinal cord was studied in 12 patients with motor neuron disease. Six healthy volunteers served as controls. Transcutaneous electrical stimulation of the cortex, cervical cord, thoracic cord and conus medullaris was used to determine motor latencies to the biceps brachii, thenar eminence and tibialis anterior muscles. Prominent, and ofte...

Sense of body ownership in patients affected by functional motor symptoms (conversion disorder).

BACKGROUND AND AIM Patients with functional neurological symptoms are commonly seen in neurological practice. Nevertheless their aetiopathology remains unclear. We have recently shown that patients affected by functional motor symptoms (FMS) present lower interoceptive awareness and higher alexithymia levels than healthy controls. Nevertheless sense of body ownership has never been studied in F...

Individual predictors of frequent emergency department use: a scoping review

BACKGROUND A small proportion of patients use an excessively large amount of emergency care resources which often results in emergency department (ED) overcrowding, decreased quality of care and efficiency. There is a need to better identify these patients in order to target those who will benefit most from interventions adapted to their specific needs. We aimed to identify the predictive facto...

Central venous catheterization in pediatric patients affected by hematological malignancies.

The objective of this retrospective study was to evaluate the significance and complications of percutaneous central venous catheterization in pediatric patients affected by hematologic malignancies. One hundred and fifty-eight central venous catheters were inserted in 125 pediatric patients (male/female 67/58; median age: 4 years; range 10 m - 6 y.) affected by hematological malignancies. Veno...
